Let?s talk about makeup! Since makeup should enhance how you look and not be the focal point, choosing the right colors is important.

If you have a seasonal color palette from your personal color analysis, then choosing makeup colors will be a breeze. Your color palette has the colors that complement your skin, eyes, and hair.

Simply, use your color palette as a general guide when selecting colors for your foundation, blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow.

If you're not sure what color palette suits you best, start by downloading my free Color Analysis Guide to find your most flattering colors.

FOUNDATION

Your foundation should have the same undertone and skin tone (light, medium, or dark) as your skin. This may sound simple, but finding the right shade of foundation can be quite difficult. I struggle with foundations that look too orange, yellow, or light on my skin.

The ideal foundation color will blend seamlessly into your jawline. You don?t want to look like you are wearing a mask with a line between your face and neck.

I recommend that you test foundations with a professional who knows the products available. She can help you navigate the countless options to find the best shade.

When you find a good option, ask for a sample so you can wear it for several days before investing in a full bottle. Many stores, like Ulta and Sephora, will let you return foundations within 30 days of purchase, so be sure to save your receipt.

BLUSH

Consider your skin undertone and skin tone when choosing a blush. Your blush color should relate to the pink or peach section of your color palette. Cool undertones will be cool pink, warm undertones will be peach or coral, and neutral undertones will be warm pinks.

Look at the pinks and peaches in your color palette as a starting point. Find similar shades to experiment with. Remember that makeup colors should be softer than the colors you wear in clothing.

People with fair skin should look for a blush that accentuates their complexion rather than overwhelms it. Often lighter colors look best for a natural-looking flush.

Those with darker skin will want a darker blush to not look washed out.

LIPSTICK

Experiment with shades of lipstick from the pink and red colors in your color palette. Remember to match the intensity of your lipstick to your color palette ? light, soft, or bright.

If you have a soft or muted color palette, stick with softer lipstick shades. If your color palette is brighter, then experiment with some brighter lipstick colors.

If a color looks too intense, try it in a sheer formula or lip gloss to dilute the color.

EYE SHADOW

The best eyeshadow and eyeliner colors will make your eyes look brighter and intensify the color of your eyes.

Since eye colors are often soft and muted, neutral colors will give you a more natural look. Choose a color that enhances your eyes and does not overpower them so your eyes will be the focal point.

You have two great options when choosing eye shadow ? select a related color to intensify your eye color or a complementary color to make your eye color pop.

Related Color

Since your eyes are like mirrors that reflect the colors around them, wearing a color that is similar to your eye color intensifies the color. For example, wear a soft teal for blue eyes or a bronze for brown eyes for color harmony.

Complementary Color

To make your eyes pop, wear an eyeshadow in a complementary color. Choose a color that is opposite your eye color on the color wheel.

The key is to wear a version of the color that matches the undertone of your skin! Your eyeshadow colors should blend with the undertone of your color palette.  Wear cool colors with cool skin and wear warm colors with warm skin.

Here is an example. Blue is across from orange and brown on the color wheel so they are complementary colors.

Blue eyes will pop with the contrast of a brown eyeshadow. The brown will make blue eyes look bluer by contrast. Those with a cool undertone should choose a cool brown or taupe, while those with a warm undertone will look better in a warm golden brown.

WHITER EYES

If you suffer from red eyes, like I do, try Lumify eye drops for instantly whiter eyes. My eye doctor recommended this product, and I use it daily for brighter eyes. It just takes a drop to work in 1 minute and will last up to 8 hours.

It's the only OTC eye drop that contains brimonidine in its FDA-approved formula that selectively targets redness with lower side effects associated with other redness relief drops. It is available on Amazon and other drug stores.

NAIL POLISH

Since your makeup colors may be muted and subtle, you can go wild on your nails. Use your color palette to pick a fun nail polish for your next manicure or pedicure.

Now you?re ready to evaluate the makeup that you have and hit the stores to find the makeup colors that flatter your skin and make you look amazing.
