Scarves are always a great way to add color and pattern to a basic outfit and elevate your look.

However, living in Texas with triple-digit highs during the summer, it?s hard to wear a scarf and stay comfortable. So my scarves are usually abandoned in my closet unworn and forgotten during the summer months.

After searching for inspiration on Pinterest, I?m sharing 11 ways to wear a scarf during the heat of summer, so you keep your cool.

Wear It Loose around your Neck

If I wear a scarf around my neck in the summer, I choose a scarf with sheer lightweight fabric draped loosely around my neck.

However, here are some other creative ways to wear your favorite scarf.

Wear It as a Head Scarf

Put your hair up and add a bright-colored scarf. Here is a short tutorial by Keiko Lynn to get you started.

Add It to your Ponytail

Dress up your ponytail or bun with a beautiful scarf.

Braid It in your Hair

I love these examples of braiding a scarf into your hair.

Add It to your Hat

A hat is a summer wardrobe essential to protect against the harmful rays of the sun. Tie a colorful scarf around your hat band.  Leave the ends loose, tuck them in, or use them as a tie.

Wear It as Jewelry

Use your smaller scarves as jewelry by wrapping and tying them on your wrist or ankle.

Tie It on your Bag

Here are some creative ways to add your favorite scarf to your handbag or beach tote. Whether it?s simply tied on, wrapped around the handle, or tied to the front flap, a scarf will add a splash of color.

Wear It as a Belt

A scarf becomes a beautiful belt by wrapping it around your waist and tying it in the front or back or adding a bow. Be creative and layer or intertwine multiple scarves or add a scarf ring.

Style tip: If you don?t want to highlight your waist, thread your scarf through just two belt loops on the side and tie a bow, instead of wrapping it around your middle.

Tie It as a Beach Coverup

As you will see in this short video, a long wide scarf makes the perfect beach coverup.

Wear It as a Vest

Wear It as a Wrap

Since it can be chilly in the evening or inside in the air-conditioning, drape a beautiful scarf over your arms as a wrap.  Keep a scarf tied to your handbag or folded inside a pocket to be prepared for cold restaurants and shops.
