I think we can agree that a cluttered and chaotic closet makes getting dressed each morning stressful and difficult.

Just imagine getting dressed easily and creating outfits you love with very little effort.

Sounds wonderful, doesn?t it?

It just takes a little effort and organization. A neat and functional closet is a space where you can see and access your entire wardrobe, including accessories, easily.

Since most of us have modest closets with limited space having things organized will maximize function and storage.

To create your organized closet, here are the basic steps.

De-clutter

Before you can create your dream closet, you need to declutter and purge things that don?t work for you anymore.

Check out 10 Tips to Purge Your Closet to get started.

Plan your Wardrobe

After de-cluttering, take a few minutes to evaluate what you have left. List what you have and your wardrobe gaps.

To help with this process, I have created a Wardrobe Planner Pack with 15 handy printable worksheets.

Organize

Now it?s time to put your closet back together.

To maximize the space that you have and keep your things neat, you need the right products. They can really make a difference in how your closet looks and functions.

PRODUCTS TO ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET

Velvet Hangers

If you only buy one thing for your closet, get slim velvet flocked hangers to save space and create uniformity. They are perfect for hanging your tops.

They are one of the best investments you can make to improve the look and function of your closet. They?re inexpensive, come in a variety of colors, and will last for years.

Sturdy Wood Hangers

I prefer wood hangers for hanging my pants, jeans, suits, and outerwear. I found that the lighter hangers broke or bent. These will not leave a crease line on your pants since the hanging rod is more rounded.

These are more expensive, but they will last a lifetime. They are worth the cost.

Drawer Organizers

Whether you have your dresser in your closet or bedroom, keep your drawers organized with dividers.

Check out these bamboo drawer dividers for keeping your small items tidy and these mesh organizers for folded camisoles and tanks. Be sure to measure your drawers first to get the right size.

Shelf Dividers

To keep your shelves organized and neat, get these acrylic dividers. They keep your handbags, sweaters, and other folded items upright and tidy while maximizing the vertical space in your closet.

Shelf Bins

These portable acrylic bins are another option to keep your items neat on shelves.

Hanging Shelves

If you need more shelf space in your closet, these hanging shelves are the perfect space-saving solution. The easy-access shelves hold folded clothing, shoes, scarves, or accessories. It hangs from your closet rod.

Use it during the cold weather for your folded sweaters, then remove it to free up closet space for the rest of the year.

Hanging Closet Organizer

Another option to use the vertical space in your closet is this hanging closet organizer. It?s a great option for any item that you can roll up. Use it for camisoles, tanks, leggings, yoga pants, swimsuits, scarves and so much more.

Shoe Racks

If you love shoes like I do, shoe racks are a must-have. Here?s a shoe rack to hold and access your favorite shoes.

Keep the shoes for the season within easy reach and out-of-season shoes on the top.

Acrylic Handbag Containers

Check out these acrylic handbag containers to store your priced handbags and keep them dust-free.

Handbag Dust Bags

If you store your handbags on a shelf in your closet, use these dust bags to keep them clean and dust-free. Cloth bags allow the leather to breathe.

Straw Baskets

Bins and baskets allow you to compartmentalize items so they're easier to find.

Many of us must store things other than clothing and accessories in our closets. Use straw baskets that you label to keep it decorative, but clutter-free.

Label Maker

This label maker is fun to use and will make your things easier to find. I have a similar one that we use for practically everything including storage bins, chargers, cords, and keys.

Scarf Hanger

I prefer to hang my scarves so they are easy to see and reach. I have one similar to this scarf hanger.

Hanging Jewelry Organizer

If you have room, a hanging jewelry organizer will keep your jewelry easy to reach and wear.

Hanging Necklace Storage

To keep your necklaces accessible, use this 2-tiered necklace holder. This is great storage for your chunky beaded necklaces. Organize them by color.

Stackable Jewelry Organizer

To keep your smaller jewelry tidy, check out these stackable jewelry organizers. Use them separately in a drawer or stack them.

 DECORATE YOUR CLOSET

As you organize your closet, decorate it as your own personal boutique.

Good Lighting

Good lighting will keep your closet light and bright and make your space look larger. Consider adding or upgrading to LED lighting. Look for one that is adjustable to get the brightness level you want.

Did you know that 3,500 K is considered true daylight, 4,000 K is morning light and 5,000 K is cool bright light?

Decorative trays

To prevent clutter on your dresser, use a decorative tray. You will be surprised how small things look neater if you put them on a tray.

Mirror

If you have room, add a mirror to your closet. Hang or mount a full-size mirror to the back of your closet door or hang a smaller one on the wall.  It will make your closet look bigger.

Folding Step Stool

Since it?s hard to reach the shelves at the top of your closet, I keep a small folding step stool handy. It makes it a breeze to reach everything easily.

Stool or Bench

If you have room, add a stool or bench to take off your shoes.

Rug or Runner

Consider adding a rug or runner to your closet to add coziness. Have a little fun choosing your color and pattern.

I hope I have given you ideas to organize your closet so it is functional and beautiful.
