How to Add the Latest Trends to Your Wardrobe

Today, let?s talk about how to create a wardrobe to look stylish and current by mixing your classic wardrobe staples with the latest trends. Whether you're in your 20s, 40s, 60s or older, women have a common desire which is wanting to look your best.

???????These useful tips will not only elevate your style and wardrobe, but will make you feel comfortable and confident in how you look.

What?s a Classic?

A classic is a timeless, traditional piece that is based on simplicity. Because of the simple design, they are stylish longer than trendy pieces. These wardrobe staples are versatile and can be worn for multiple purposes. Classic items are usually made from quality materials and last for years. Classics are always a worthwhile investment because you will wear them more and longer.

What?s a Trend?

A trend is a change in the fashion world that impacts what retailers offer and how we dress. Trends keep clothing styles changing each year. Trends can follow the decades as you look back at the distinctive styles of the 70?s, 80?s and 90?s. They also come back over time like the revival of the 70?s style flare jeans. Oh, I can still remember my first pair of flare jeans from junior high school. They were pink stripes and I thought I was so stylish.

A trend has five stages, and its life span will vary.

???????????????????????????

When a trend is introduced, it rises in popularity and becomes trendy. The next year, the trend goes mainstream reaching its peak when major retailers carry the trend and it?s readily available. By the third year, the trend begins its decline as consumers grow tired of it. Depending on its popularity, its downfall may last one year or several. Obsolescence is when it?s labeled ?out of style.?

The bottom line is that fashion trends come and go.

How to Mix Classic and Trendy Clothing to Look Stylish and Current

Creating a wardrobe to look current and modern is a balancing act of classic pieces and trendy items. Here?s a common sense approach to creating a wardrobe that reflects the current trends but doesn?t fall victim to them.

Focus on Timeless Pieces

Most of your wardrobe and your shopping budget should be focused on wardrobe basics and staples that reflect your primary style. These classic, relaxed, or elegant chic clothes will be the workhorses and the core of your wardrobe. These pieces will last for years without looking dated.

Add Trends that Suit You

You need to be aware of the current fashion trends. Knowing what?s in style and what?s out of style will help you to look stylish and current!

?????Mixing a few selected trends with your traditional wardrobe will keep you looking fresh, modern, and stylish. Adding current trends is an opportunity to add pizzazz to your outfits, express your personal style, and add style elements that you love to your wardrobe.

Not sure how many trendy items to add? Consider using the French Five method of adding five of the latest trends to your wardrobe each season. I try to do this twice a year usually when the weather changes in spring and fall.

So, here?s some tips for choosing what trends to add to your wardrobe.

?????????????

? Think of trends as suggestions!

? Try current trends in small doses.

? Be selective and only choose the trends that suit your body shape.

? Only add trendy colors if they work with your color palette.

? Stay true to your personal style.

? Choose trends that fit your lifestyle.

? Don?t spend a lot of money since the trend may not be around very long.

If a trend is not a fit for you, then pass on it! The trends you choose to add to your wardrobe is entirely up to you, not the recommendation of others.

But just adding the latest trends to your wardrobe may not be enough to look stylish and current.

Purge Dated Clothing

You need to be continually editing your wardrobe and purging older and dated clothing. Even classic clothing styles change over time as the silhouettes, shapes, and fabrics change. If you want to look stylish, you need to stop wearing clothing that make you look dated and stuck in a time warp.

Here?s some suggestions for editing your wardrobe.

???????????

? Evaluate your wardrobe at least annually. I like to do it when the seasons change.

? Update any wardrobe basics that look worn or dated.

? Purge any clothing that?s considered ?out of style?.

I created a printable Wardrobe Planning Guide to help you edit and inventory your wardrobe and much more! Be sure to check it out when you're ready to clean your closet.

Ratio of Classic vs Trendy

The majority of your wardrobe and budget should be focused on traditional styles so you get the most wear or bang for your buck.

????Your ratio of classic to trendy clothing will depend on your personal style. Some like to follow the 80 / 20 rule of 80% basics to 20% trends. But there really are no set rules, you should create your wardrobe in a way that feels right to you.

As you edit your wardrobe, just remember to keep the majority of your clothing based on classic designs, add a few trends that suit you, and purge all clothing that's dating you.

????????Following these simple principles will result in a wardrobe that makes you look stylish, current, and confident.

I hope these tips help you to update your wardrobe to look stylish and current.
